Welcome to 6th Grade ELA
Dear Parents,
This year I have the privilege of teaching your children. I look forward to working with you and your child this school year.
During the year, your child will have the opportunity to explore many new and interesting topics. Sixth grade ELA will be both challenging and fun. This year we are using a new instructional materials that have been purchased by the county. Here is the web page for you to get an overview: http://commoncoresuccess.eleducation.org/curriculum-map We will be using Modules 1, 2B, 3B and 4.
Students will be using google classroom and email in the classrooms daily. Additional, web resources will be used, including but not limited to, NoRedInk, FrontRow and NEWSELA.
Students will be receiving a workbook to use in ELA this year. Students are expected to have the book each day in class. If they misplace or lose the book, a digital copy of the book is on google classroom and you are free to print out another copy of the book. Students will also be given an agenda this year. The expectation is that students will have it with them each day in each class. These items along with their supplies are expected to be in class with the student each day.
Rules and Procedures:
We have very high expectations in my classroom. Positive behavior is vital to create a good learning environment and success in the sixth grade. Those students that make great decisions consistently will be rewarded throughout the school year. We follow R.O.A.R expectations.
R: respect everyone and everything
O: Own your own actions
A: Achieve your own goals
R: Remain Safe
Supplies:
Students will need a notebook, pencils, glue sticks and staplers in class daily. Index cards and post it notes will be helpful but not required. Student supplies will need to be replaced as necessary. A pair of ear buds and a mouse is highly recommended.
Homework:
Homework counts as 10% of the student’s final grade and is a tool used to reinforce skills.
Daily homework assignments will be posted on the board and students will be responsible for writing assignments in their agenda. Additionally, a remind101 will go home so that you are aware.
